Mild Thursday with a quick cooldown starting Friday

Clear skies and clear roads for now. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

Scattered flurries and mixed precipitation fell over southern B.C. and much of Alberta early Thursday morning with more precipitation expected throughout the day.

Temperatures early Thursday were much warmer than average with Calgary sitting close to the freezing mark for the morning commute, compared to the average low of -12 C.

Daytime highs will warm up to around 4 C by the afternoon, with light and scattered flurries possible across the area during the day, and more localized precipitation expected by the evening and into Friday.

Friday’s high of -5 C will be reached very early - in the overnight hours - with temperatures continuing to drop throughout the day.

With a north wind, the afternoon will feel even colder than the ambient temperature of -11 C.

It will remain cold on Saturday due to a southerly situated polar vortex.

But there will be a rapid increase in temperatures on Sunday, with the daytime high returning to -1 C.

Daytime highs for the start of next week will sit above freezing with lows around -5 C.

By the end of next week, there will be a return to wintery weather with highs as cold as average lows and more snow in the forecast.
