Mild start to the week with seasonal Halloween forecast

Clear in Calgary, snow further north in Alberta. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

Monday will be slightly cooler than average and windy, with sustained west and northwest winds of 20 km/h in Calgary and gusts closer to 40 km/h.

A low-pressure system in northern Alberta and Saskatchewan will bring snow and mixed precipitation to that region on Monday and early Tuesday.

Most of British Columbia, southern Alberta, and southern Saskatchewan will sit under zonal flow to start the week (a flat west to east pattern in the jet stream) before a more meridional pattern establishes with distinct ridges and troughs (a wavy pattern in the jet stream).

This will lead to a brief – and slight - bump in temperatures under the ridge by Wednesday, including in southern Alberta.

Overnight lows are expected to be slightly above seasonal for the next week in Calgary. The average daytime high this time of year is 9 C with a low of -4 C.

A moisture-laden system is expected to move into B.C. over the next 24 hours, bringing a good amount of rain along the coast, before heavy, wet, snow spreads across central and southern B.C.

Snow is expected in the Rockies and along the foothills by Tuesday and Wednesday but will struggle to track as far east as the Highway 2 and QEII corridor.

The Halloween forecast is expected to be mild in the day and above freezing for trick-or-treaters, with a high 9 C in Calgary and a low of 4 C.
