Mild but windy Monday with more snow expected Tuesday

Slightly above seasonal for Calgary on Monday. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

Daytime highs in Calgary will return to above-seasonal values to start this week, ranging from 0 C to 4 C between Monday and Thursday.

There will be a mix of sun and cloud in Calgary Monday with a mild westerly wind of 10 to 20 km/h.

Stronger winds are expected in areas like Waterton with sustained winds speeds as high as 80 to 90 km/h but, if they are stronger, could trigger a wind warning later in the day.

More snow is falling over northern and central British Columbia and Alberta and will eventually start to track south.

By Monday night, that system will run parallel to the foothills and potentially bring another one to three centimetres of snow to Calgary by Tuesday.

Warmer air will move in behind so that by Thursday the high in Calgary will reach 4 C, but the polar vortex that is sitting over Hudson Bay will eventually widen and meander south, introducing a brief infusion of colder air to the west.

Saturday’s high in Calgary will be 17 degrees colder than Thursday’s, and 15 degrees colder than Sunday’s high.

The average range of temperatures in Calgary this time of year is 0 C for a high and -12 C for a low.
