Mild – but windy – Halloween forecast

It's not raining cats and dogs for Halloween, but it is for Jodi Hughes. Here's your trick-or-treating forecast for Calgary.

Inclement weather will hold off for most of Halloween in southern Alberta before a day of transition.

Daytime highs in the region will sit close to seasonal on Friday, with only a slight chance of light and scattered precipitation.

Sustained winds are expected to pick up throughout the day to 20 km/h with gusts closer to 40 km/h, so despite an evening temperature that will be above freezing in Calgary – it will feel cooler than that.

Rain will funnel into the West Coast Friday before a series of low-pressure systems in the Pacific basin will serve as the steering mechanism for some west-to-east movement.

That precipitation will transition to snow as it gets closer to the Rockies and in higher elevation locations.

Snow is expected in central and southern B.C. later Friday and early Saturday with some mixed precipitation likely along the Alberta side of the range.

Saturday will be the warmest day of the week in Calgary with a high of 13 C compared to the average of 8 C.

A low-riding jet is expected to settle into a zonal pattern along the southern border of B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba by early next week bringing cooler temperatures for most of the country,
