Mid-week cooldown expected with first accumulating snow possible near Edmonton

Tuesday’s daytime high will be similar to Monday’s, however the weather conditions will differ.

Most of Alberta will sit under a clear sky for the majority of the day before an incoming frontal system from the north will start to disrupt that stability by the evening.

Once that northern low tracks into central Alberta mid-week, it is expected to meet up with a moisture-laden system from the Pacific basin and stall out.

Variable amounts of rain, snow and mixed precipitation are forecast for central and southern B.C. and Alberta Wednesday.

Strong north winds and heavy, wet snow are likely across the capital region by Thursday, possibly producing the first accumulating snowfall of the season in the city of Edmonton at the same time a fast-moving system is expected to race west to east across the Prairies.

The type of precipitation across the province of Alberta is still difficult to pinpoint as local temperatures and timing will play a significant role.

Some communities in central Alberta may experience freezing rain overnight Wednesday and early Thursday morning.

Calgary is likely to see some precipitation on Wednesday, however accumulations should remain low.

Temperatures will be suppressed for a day in southern Alberta before warming up again Thursday.
