Lethbridge home shuttered by sheriffs over concerns of drug trafficking, fights

Alberta sheriffs have closed a Lethbridge house that officers were frequently called to over complaints about fights and disorderly conduct.

Lethbridge police say officers received 60 calls about the property since June 2021.

The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit closed thehome, located at 1025 12 St. South, for 90 days starting Wednesday.

The property will be boarded up and fenced off, and all the locks will be changed.

No one is allowed to enter the home until the closure period ends on Jan. 26, 2026.

A community safety order for the home will remain in effect for an additional two years, until Jan. 26, 2028.

Throughout its investigation, SCAN says sheriffs observed “activity consistent with illegal drug trafficking and abuse” at the property.

“This closure represents more than just the end of criminal activity at a single address – it’s a step toward restoring a sense of safety and trust in the neighbourhood,” said Shahin Mehdizadeh, Lethbridge Police Service chief, in a news release.

Since its inception in 2008, the SCAN unit has investigated more than 10,000 properties and issued more than 140 community safety orders.
