Lethbridge driver charged after hitting two boys at marked crosswalk

Published:

Two 17-year-old boys were hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning crossing a Lethbridge street. One of them suffered serious injuries.

Lethbridge police say a 24-year-old man is charged with careless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk in connection with an incident where two 17-year-old boys were hit by a vehicle last week.

At 7:45 a.m. on March 25, police were called to Third Avenue South after two youths were struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in a marked crosswalk.

Police say one of the boys suffered minor injuries while the other had significant injuries. Both victims are expected to recover.

Landon Eric Veluw, 24, was charged with careless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

An initial investigation suggested that sun glare was a factor in the crash, but police said the crosswalk indicator lights were active and other vehicles had stopped to allow the boys to cross.

Veluw is expected in court on June 10.
