The Hitmen are heading to the second round of the WHL playoffs after sweeping out the Blades with a 6-2 victory Wednesday in Saskatoon.
It was the Hitmen’s first playoff series win since 2019 and their first series sweep since 2009.
After a scoreless first period, both teams erupted in the second period, scoring six goals.
The Hitmen got goals from David Adaszsynski, two from Ben Kindel and one from Carter Yakemchuk, while Saskatoon responded with two of their own, getting goals from Zach Olsen and Hayden Harsanyi.
In the third, the Hitmen built a three-goal lead on a goal from Oliver Tulk and then Kindel completed his hat trick into an empty net to make it a 6-2 final.
Calgary outshot Saskatoon 36-29, with Anders Miller picking up his fourth straight playoff victory.
The Hitmen’s second-round opponent has yet to be determined.
