It’s tick season in Lethbridge and officials advise residents to look out

Officials say if you are out enjoying the warm weather, be on the lookout for ticks.

The creatures have been spotted on the south side near the river bottom.

Ticks usually come out in the early spring until the end of June.

Lethbridge is home to the Rocky Mountain wood tick , which can be harmful to humans and pets.

Officials say ticks are frequently found in longer grass and shrubs, likely in the coulees.

“Every 15 or 20 minutes, as you’re walking along, just glance down at your pants, glance down at your arms. If you’re walking with someone, have them just turn around and check each other. One of the ways that we can see ticks a little bit better is tucking your pants into your socks,” said Coreen Putman, manager at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre.

“It does look a little bit funny, but it does help keep the ticks out as they get onto your clothes—they’re on the outside of your clothes, and they’re much easier to see.”
