‘It’s lively, it’s theatrical’: Wordfest celebrates 30 years at its signature event, the Imaginairium

Calgary’s Wordfest marks its 30th anniversary this year, capped off with a series of thought-provoking, laugh inducing, tear shedding events at its Imaginairium.

Wordfest CEO Shelley Youngblut says the festival’s reputation has grown so much it’s now a sought-after destination for authors.

“When they come to Calgary it’s lively, it’s theatrical. We have a big audience. We have a lot of attention and we also sell a ton of books,” Youngblut told CTV news.

Wordfest holds 100 events each year but its Imaginairium in October remains its signature event, with dozens of writers engaging with readers.

“The one thing about a literary show is you get to meet the stars. So after this extravaganza you get to stand in line, whether you buy the book or not, and actually have a few moments with the authors,” Youngblut said.

Wordfest Imaginairium runs from October 14 to 19.
