Calgary Holi celebration marks arrival of spring, triumph of good over evil.

Members of Calgary’s Hindu community came together a holi festival on Sunday.

The celebration marks the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil.

People threw chalk with different colours on each other, representing the diversity of people’s backgrounds, coming together.

“People are going to throwing colours on each other,” said Akshay Gulati, an organizer with the Indian Society of Calgary, ahead of the event. “It also represents the love and affection among the people, because I think that’s what we need nowadays, unity and love and affection.”

Bollywood music contemporary dance performances and Indian cuisine were all part of the celebration.

An estimated 1,000 people joined in the festivities at Prairie Winds Park in northeast Calgary.
