Hitmen prove resilient on the road with critical 5-3 win in Lethbridge

The Calgary Hitmen dug deep Tuesday night and clawed back into their first-round series, defeating Lethbridge 5-3 in front of a large crowd of 4,277.

The victory cut the Hurricane’s series lead to 2-1, with Game 4 scheduled for Wednesday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

Following a scoreless first period, Carson Wetsch got the Hitmen off to a good start in the second, before Trae Johnson tied it up for the Hurricanes.

David Adaszynski scored the Hitmens’ second goal, sending the club into the biggest third period of their season ahead by a 2-1 count.

In the third, Hurricane Shane Smith scored 6:21 in, to tie the score again at 2-2.

With a little over 10 minutes left on the clock Alex Hurtig scored to make it 3-2.

When the Hurricanes pulled goalie Jackson Unger, Wetsch added his second of the night to make it 4-2. Caden Price scored with 39 seconds left to make it a one-goal game, until Westch clinched it with his third goal of the night.

Lethbridge outshot the Hitmen 29-23, with goaltender Anders Miller picking up the win for Calgary.

Puck drop for Wednesday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
