Daytime highs across southern Alberta will be well below seasonal on Friday, sitting at least five degrees below average daily low values in most locations, including Calgary.
The same synoptic setup that has prompted extreme cold warnings over the past week is still in place and even expanding further west than it was over the past couple of days.
Light snow fell overnight in and around Calgary, with more snow expected along the southern border of the province on Friday and into Saturday as it follows a low pressure system that entered from the Oregon coast and it heading toward the U.S. Midwest.

As of 4 a.m. the windchill values in southern Alberta were in the mid -20s to low -30s, so there were not any extreme cold warnings for the area.
This will likely change overnight with some areas potentially reaching that warning threshold of an air temperature and/or a windchill value of at least -40 for at least two consecutive hours.

At this point it seems unlikely seasonal temperatures will return until the end of next week, with daytime highs in Calgary ranging from -19 C on Friday to -14 C on Wednesday.
