Fly-pasts above Lethbridge cenotaph mark Remembrance Day ceremony

Those attending the Remembrance Day ceremony at the cenotaph in Lethbridge were given two separate fly-pasts.

The Royal Canadian Air Force’s 429 Transport Squadron had a flyover of its C-17 Globemaster.

Shortly after the large aircraft, Geoffrey Brayne flew overhead several times in his 1952 Harvard MK aircraft.

Lethbridge adopted the squadron in 1944, fostering a strong and lasting relationship between the city and the unit.

Major Mitch Montminy with the 20th Independent Field Battery—Lethbridge’s Canadian Army Reserve—spoke of legacy and representation of the various units.

“The 20th Independent, of course, are the current local unit in town, and we also have members of the South Alberta Light Horse here, and the Calgary Highlanders have a small contingent here as well, so there’s representation from all of the local units on parade,” Montminy said.

“And we always stay in touch with 429, as this is their place of origin, and (it’s) great to see them on Remembrance Day.”

Last year marked the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
