Dylan Marineau following in his father’s footsteps into Winter Olympics

The Winter Games are just around the corner, and Dylan Marineau is going to be an Olympian just like his dad, Dennis. Dylan leaves Friday.

Dylan Marineau is going to his first Winter Olympic Games.

The 27-year-old qualified in freestyle halfpipe and couldn’t be happier.

“(It was) amazing. It was the best feeling in the world. I’ve been working for it ever since I was a kid, basically,” he said.

Like father, like son

Dylan is following in his father’s footsteps when it comes to the Olympics.

Dennis Marineau represented Canada at the 1992 games in Albertville, France.

But Dylan says bobsleigh wasn’t the sport for him.

“People always ask me why I didn’t go down the bobsled route,” he said.

“The bobsled sport has changed a lot. They’re a lot bigger now, and I definitely got my mom’s traits. I’m quite small, and it never would’ve worked.”

Learned a lot

Even though they chose different sports, Dylan says he’s learned a lot from his dad over the years.

“It definitely wasn’t technical stuff because I had coaches for that,” he said.

“It was more the mental stuff, like prepping and getting your mind ready for competing and always looking past obstacles, things like that.”

Both games-bound

Dennis Marineau is going to be at the games in Milano Cortina as well.

He’s a bobsled coach for the United States.

The younger Marineau says they’ve both been busy with World Cups, and it’s going to be special to see his dad there.

“It will actually be quite emotional,” said Dylan Marineau.

“I haven’t seen him since Christmas for four days, and then before that I hadn’t seen him since September.

“He is definitely going to move mountains to come and see me compete.”
