Daytime highs peak at 27 C this weekend before another dramatic change Sunday

Clear skies and sunny, warm weather ahead. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

A persistently stable weather pattern will drive temperatures up across Alberta and B.C. over the next few days.

A dominant ridge of high pressure situated over the west will become anchored by a pair of low pressure systems to the east and west.

The clockwise rotation around the high will be offset by the counter-clockwise rotation around the lows, enhancing conditions underneath the ridge.

For most of Alberta that will translate to clear skies, minimal wind, elevated temperatures over the 24-hour periods, and a negligible chance of active weather.

Calgary’s daytime highs will reach 26 C by Friday and 27 C by Saturday, with some locations in southeastern Alberta expecting highs closer to 30 C.

The anchoring low to the west is going to start to break off on Saturday and when it does the upper pattern to the east will undergo a ripple effect in the form of instability.

Colder air will rush in to Alberta by Sunday, and completely upend that warmer trend, so Sunday’s high in Calgary will be 16 degrees colder than Saturday’s.

Mixed precipitation is possible in the mountains late Saturday and on Sunday, with rain likely for much of central and southern Alberta.

Typical of spring, this cooldown will be short-lived, and daytime highs by the middle of next week should reach the mid-20s again.
