Daytime highs in the mid-teens to start the weekend, snow possible by Sunday

Warm weather ahead, but for a blip on Sunday. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

A moderate ridge of high pressure is situated over southern British Columbia and portions of southern Alberta.

This will push temperatures on Friday above 20 C in areas like Kamloops and Kelowna, and into the mid-to-high teens in central and southern Alberta.

Calgary is expecting a high of 15 C Friday and 16 C on Saturday, before a brief period of instability develops along the foothills late Saturday.

Scattered showers are expected through the B.C. interior Saturday before tracking east across the Rockies.

Rain will transition to snow overnight and in the higher elevations, with Calgary likely to sit just at the northern edge of this moisture.

There is a slight chance of mixed precipitation in the Calgary area Saturday night and about a 60 per cent chance of snow on Sunday.

If the city does see snow, total accumulations should be between one to two centimetres.

Surface temperatures will be warm after two days of double-digit daytime highs plus lows around the freezing mark, so it is unlikely travel conditions will be severely impacted in the city however, there could be a brief period of measurable impact outside of the city, especially in areas prone to strong wind gusts and/or in higher elevations.

Daytime highs will return to seasonal values for Monday and Tuesday before another quick turnaround on Wednesday with at least five days of daytime highs that are three to 10 degrees below seasonal.
