Cloudy but warm start to the week with rain and snow possible Tuesday

Temperatures remain above zero in Calgary. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

Fog developed in central and north-central Alberta overnight prompting some advisories including along the QEII near Red Deer but, by 9:30 a.m. Monday, the fog advisories north of Calgary had been dropped.

Fog advisories remained near Edmonton and snowfall warnings continued for northeastern Alberta and northwestern Saskatchewan.

Temperatures around Calgary early Monday were around 2 C, which is the average high this time of year.

Daytime highs in southern Alberta will sit above seasonal for most of this week, although they will moderate slightly on Tuesday as a lee trough produces some upsloping and introduces precipitation.

Rain, mixed precipitation, and snow are all possible in Calgary Tuesday, both in the morning and especially for the mid-afternoon.

These types of synoptic setups are problematic for forecasting precipitation totals and to pinpoint precipitation locations, however accumulation totals in the city should be minimal.

Most of southern Alberta will see persistent cloud cover Monday.

Winds will remain insignificant even as they shift from a west-to-east direction to a more northwesterly flow.

The warmest day of the next week will be today, with a cooldown expected early next week, bringing the first run of days this season where the daytime highs do not rise above freezing.
