An art auction house is launching a public preview of Canadian masterworks Thursday in southeast Calgary.

Works by Group of Seven legends Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson, Franklin Carmichael, A.J. Casson and Arthur Lismer as well as other prominent Canadian artists such as Tom Thomson, Alex Janvier and Emily Carr will be auctioned online and can be viewed in person this weekend.

One Thomson painting, Autumn, Algonquin Park, is predicted to fetch between $1 million and $1.2 million, while a second, Dawn on Round Lake, is predicted to go for between $700,000 and $800,000.

A collection of art from the estate of Dr. Luigi Rossi includes Janvier’s 99 Goes to Hollywood, which refers to the time in 1988 when Wayne Gretzky was traded from the Edmonton Oilers to the Los Angeles Kings. That one, which Janvier painted in 1988, is expected to fetch between $40,000 and $60,000.
