Calgary weather: Sunny and above seasonal for the workweek

We have a good stretch of sunshine ahead! We really won’t see a significant change in this weather pattern until Sunday at the earliest.

It’s a stable and sunny setup for Calgary for the first full week of May.

The only exception is the temperature on Monday, which was slightly below seasonal at a high of 14 C.

This minor cool-off was caused by that brief blast of cold air and unsettled weather that passed over the city on Sunday, forcing Monday to be a rebuild day on the temperature front.

Another ridge of high pressure will help get temperatures back above the seasonal high of 15 C on Tuesday, but the warm weather comes with stronger winds, which can pose a wildfire/grassfire threat.

The temperature and wind are being influenced by a fluctuating jet stream that will gradually lower and flatten over southern Alberta by late Wednesday.

It won’t impact conditions very much aside from bringing a few more clouds into the area by Thursday, but it will cause temperatures to return to the high teens and intensify those winds from a westerly direction.

We really won’t see a significant change in this weather pattern until Sunday at the earliest, when a low-pressure system hovering around the Gulf of Alaska finally starts to track inland, which will drive temperatures down and bring showers next week.
