Calgary changes blue, black and green cart pickup schedules

Changes are coming to some garbage and recycling schedules in Calgary as the city grows and adapts to new areas.

Calgary homeowners are being warned that their cart collection schedule might soon change.

The City of Calgary says adjustments to the pickup of blue, black and green bins are needed as the city continues to grow, increasing the number of communities that require garbage, recycling and compost collection and changing truck routes.

The new schedules will take effect the week of Tuesday, April 22, following Easter Monday.

Residents are asked to check their schedule online to see if their collection day is changing.

How to check your schedule

You can find your updated collection schedule by visiting calgary.ca/cartschedule, or by downloading the My Garbage Day App.

If you’re already using the My Garbage Day App, any schedule changes will be updated automatically.

Green cart moves back to weekly collection

Green bin, Green Cart, recycling, compost, bins, c Paper bags are included for extra waste that doesn't fit inside the green bins.

Calgarians are also reminded that pickup of green composting carts will move back to weekly pickup as of April 22.

If you’re using the bins to dispose of yard waste, you’re reminded to:

  • Fill your green cart first before using paper yard waste bags – and roll tops closed on the bags;
  • Place extra bags at least two feet (0.5 metres) to the side of your green cart; and
  • Ensure bags are light enough to lift with one hand.
