Another warm week ahead with highs in the mid-20s by Wednesday

As expected, Sunday was a much different day than Saturday bringing mixed precipitation across portions of central and southern Alberta and a daytime high in Calgary dropping by more than 10 degrees on Sunday.

Monday will serve as a day of transition as an incoming ridge of high pressure pushes that brief source of instability (a low-pressure system) out of the region.

Similar to last week this ridge will settle over the west and starting Tuesday, create persistently stable conditions for a few days including elevated temperatures, clear skies, and minimal wind.

By Wednesday, daytime highs across most of Alberta will be in the low to mid-20s, a situation which amplifies concerns for wildfire and/or grassfire as this kind of early season heat with rapid changes (including thunderstorms) can enhance risks.

Monday’s high of 14 C in Calgary will likely be the coolest peak temperature for at least a week.

The long-range forecast suggests this pattern will change quite quickly again from Sunday to Monday, with Monday potentially including some heavy rain for southern Alberta, including Calgary.
