Alberta town orders removal of pro-separation billboard, calling it a 'nuisance'

A billboard in the town of Taber is gaining attention for displaying a pro-separatist message that reads, “Send Ottawa a message! Choose Alberta.”

CALGARY — The man who paid for a billboard urging Alberta leave Canada says the Town of Taber is ordering it be taken down.

Cory Morgan says the town sent a letter last week to the owner/operator of the sign ordering the billboard be removed.

The billboard, located on town land, shows the Alberta shield surrounded by the words: Send Ottawa a Message! Choose Alberta.

Morgan says the town advised the billboard has garnered a number of complaints and violates land use rules because it has become a nuisance.

Taber officials have declined to comment since the controversy arose last week, with some people threatening to boycott Taber’s famous corn crop to show their displeasure.

The sign must come down by the end of the week, and Morgan says if it does, he’ll put more signs up elsewhere.
