The driver of a double-decker BC Transit bus is in some hot water after being pulled over for speeding in Greater Victoria Friday afternoon.

The vehicle was clocked going 85 kilometres an hour in the 3700-block of Sooke Road just outside of Langford, where the speed limit is 60 km/h.

The 61 Sooke/Langford/Downtown bus was partially full of passengers, according to Const. Andy Dunstan of the Capital Regional District’s Integrated Road Safety Unit.

“Everyone is subject to the rules of the road, and a transit bus is no different,” said Dunstan, who shared a picture of the pulled over bus on IRSU’s Twitter account.

The driver of the bus was ticketed and carried on with their trip.

BC Transit said in a statement it is taking the matter “extremely seriously” and will cooperate with IRSU as well as launch its own investigation.

“We expect that our buses will be driven in a safe manner and fully expect that our operators will follow the traffic laws,” the company said. “There is no reason why a bus should be speeding.”

It said it would take appropriate action with the bus operator.

It comes a day after an early morning police blitz on the notorious stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway known as the Malahat resulted in a whopping 72 speeding tickets, many of them issued to commuters, according to police.
