YMCA needs money to help people

YMCA needs your help to reach its financial assistance program goals.

Short of its $100,000 goal, the YMCA of Owen Sound, Grey Bruce is reaching out to the public for help – to help others feel like they belong.

The YMCA has a shortfall of $32,000 in its Strong Communities Fund that supports its financial assistance program, providing access to programs for those who need the help.

“Thanks to caring supporters and donors, the YMCA is removing barriers one moment at a time. Whether it’s a child laughing out loud in swimming lessons, or someone finding hope in a health and wellness class, donations make a difference. The impact goes beyond any single program; it reaches far and wide to create moments that last a lifetime,” said the YMCA in a statement released March 4.

This year, the need for financial assistance is real, said April McMillan, YMCA’s manager of fund development.

In its 2023-2024 fiscal year, the YMCA provided over $181,000 in support to individuals and families – more than double the $83,000 given in 2022-2023.

“The growing demand highlights the critical role our financial assistance program plays in ensuring everyone has access to the programs and support they need to ignite their potential. We are committed to continuing this vital work, but we can’t do it alone. Your support is essential to helping us meet this increased need,” said McMillan.
