Always adding Encore numbers to his lottery ticket purchases finally paid off for Danny Saroff, who won $100,000 in last month’s draw.
The Wasaga Beach retiree matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Feb. 15 draw with the ticket he purchased at Real Canadian Superstore on 45th Street South.
He realized he had won big when he checked his tickets at the store. "I had some modest wins on a few of my tickets, but when I scanned the last one, my Lotto 6/49, I saw $100,000 on the screen. I was left shocked. It was a surreal feeling to win that amount.”
Saroff first shared the news with his wife. "She came into the store, and I said, ‘You won’t believe this! I won $100,000.’ I watched her jaw drop in disbelief."
The couple, overcome with emotion, has managed to keep the news quiet. “But are looking forward to sharing with our family soon," Saroff added.
He said he plans to pay some bills and splurge on a new boat. “Winning this prize provides financial freedom,” he concluded with a smile.
Encore can be played in conjunction with most lottery games for an additional dollar. Encore draws take place twice daily.
