Police in York Region are issuing a warning to the public after what they are calling a violent daytime home invasion in Aurora.
According to police, a female opened her front door to someone knocking aggressively and as she did, the suspect forced his way inside and attempted to restrain her.
"A second victim, who was also at the residence, attempted to intervene and was violently assaulted," York Regional Police (YRP) stated in a release.
The alleged incident happened at a home in the area of Murray Drive and Kennedy Street around 11:20 a.m. on Thursday.
Police say the suspect took off with making any demands for valuables or stealing anything. Both individuals suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, YRP said.
The suspect is believed to be a white man between 20 and 30 years old, and roughly six feet tall. He was wearing a black balaclava with two eye-holes and a mouth hole, a midweight black puffy jacket, black pants and black boot-like footwear.
Anyone with information, including video surveillance, is asked to contact the police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
“York Regional Police would like to warn the community to always know who is at your door before opening it. This can be done from a window where the person would not be able to see you, for example, a second floor or living room window. If able, use security cameras or peepholes to verify who is at the door before opening it,” YRP continued. “If you feel unsafe, trust your instincts and call 911 right away.”
