The spring thaw is met with flood concerns as several roads are washed out following record snowfall this winter.

Police have closed several roads in Dufferin County that experienced flooding on Sunday.

In a social media post, Dufferin County OPP stated that the following roads in Grand Valley, Amaranth Township, and East Garafraxa Township have been closed due to active or potential flooding:

- County Road 25 between Highway 89 and County Road 109.

- Water Street from Rainy Street to Melody Street.

- Emma Street from Water Street to Main Street.

- William Street from Water Street to Emma Street.

- Mill Street East to King Street

- Concession Roads 12 and 13 between Sideroads 24-25 and Sideroads 27-28

- 10th Sideroad between County Road 24 and 15th Line

- 10th Line Amaranth between County Road 109 and 5th Sideroad

Non-residents are urged by police to avoid the closed roads for their safety – by vehicle and by foot – and to avoid driving around barricades.

Police urge local residents to use extreme caution, and add that other roads could be flooded as well.

Environment Canada’s issued a special weather statement for up to 20 millimetres of rainfall and up to 80 kilometre-per-hour wind gusts through Sunday for most of southern Ontario.
