An arrest warrant delivery turned ugly in Coldwater when the suspect harmed himself.
The investigation before the SIU began October 23, when York Regional Police attempted to execute a search warrant.
The man had been warned this event was going to take place.
However, just after hearing the police knock at the door, the man self-injured.
Police forced entry into the apartment and quickly provided first-aid.
The man was taken to hospital and treated.
Joseph Martino, director of the SIU, wrote in his report released Wednesday that the investigation into the officers’ actions should be discontinued.
“The man alone was responsible for his injuries and the officers did nothing to harm him. Rather, they saved his life. On this record, there being patently nothing to investigate as far as any officer’s potential criminal liability was concerned, the file has been closed,” Martino’s findings were released in a statement.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians.
