A little over one month after a fire devastated a part of Orillia’s downtown core, the neighbourhood is facing another significant challenge after a roof collapsed Monday night.
According to Fire Chief Chris Ferry, the roof of a property along West Street North between Mississaga and Coldwater streets collapsed around 6:30 p.m.
The unit, which used to be a business that is no longer in operation, was vacant at the time.
There were no injuries reported. In addition to the roof collapsing, one of the exterior walls also suffered significant damage.

While the cause is not known, one possibility is the heavy snowfall that the City has seen this year, according to the fire chief. An investigation to determine the cause is underway.
In the interim, the Orillia Transit Terminal has been temporarily relocated to Peter Street and Mississaga Street Tuesday.
Call Orillia’s TOK Transit at 705-326-8300 for more information.
This is the second significant structural-related incident in just over one month. In January a fire destroyed an historic building on Peter Street South.
