A 22-year-old man from Hamilton is facing charges following an unsanctioned truck rally held over the weekend in a south Barrie plaza parking lot.

Barrie police say the rally consisted of roughly 150 to 200 trucks and more than 100 participants Saturday evening. Police allege the Hamilton man was operating his pickup truck in a dangerous manner and nearly struck two police vehicles before fleeing the area.

On Tuesday, the accused surrendered to police and was later released from custody with a future court date. He faces charges of mischief, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and flight from a peace officer.

Police urge anyone with video or dash camera footage of the rally to contact the investigating officer at 705-725-7025 ext. 2702.

"These unlawful public gatherings are not welcome in the City of Barrie and Barrie police will continue to investigate all unsanctioned track rallies and any related disturbances," the service stated.
