A Schomberg man is facing several charges, including having open liquor in his vehicle, after police responded to reports of a truck doing burnouts at stop signs and driving over a restaurant patio structure in Adjala-Tosorontio.
Nottawasaga OPP says the calls came in on Monday evening about a pickup truck being driven erratically while travelling east on the 5th Line. The truck made its way down Tottenham Road and Country Road 1 in Loretto, before officers located it and conducted a traffic stop at a gas station on Highway 9.
Police allege the 51-year-old driver refused to comply with a roadside test, and was subsequently charged with failing to remain, failing to report an accident, failing to surrender an insurance card, and failing or refusing to comply with demand.
Along with the list of charges, the accused was also issued a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
"The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive," OPP stated. “Failing or refusing to comply with a breath demand whether for an Approved Screening Device or an intoxilyzer at the police station carries the same legal consequences as an impaired driving charge under the Criminal Code of Canada.”
