Police: Driver exits truck, drink still in hand

Barrie police have charged one man with impaired driving, after some allegedly reckless behaviour behind the wheel.

Barrie Police received a report of a man that allegedly drove his truck onto the front lawn of a home in Janine street, on Monday evening.

According to police, the person who reported the incident, claimed the driver was then seen exiting his vehicle with his drink still in hand.

Police responded to the call at 7:45 p.m. on Monday.

When officers arrived on scene, they say the vehicle was parked on the roadway. When speaking with the driver, officers claim to have smelled alcohol and began to investigate him.

In their investigation, police say they found several open cans of alcohol inside the truck.

The man was then taken to police headquarters, where police conducted a breath test.

According to police, test results showed the man had a blood alcohol concentration level of nearly twice the legal limit.

A 66-year-old man now faces charges of impaired operation.

He also faces a charge for allegedly having a speed measuring warning device in his vehicle, which is prohibited under the Highway Traffic Act.
