No helmets in alleged impaired ATV crash that sends passenger to trauma centre

An ATV crash in Kawartha Lakes sent a passenger to the hospital, with police alleging the driver was impaired and neither rider was wearing a helmet.

This happened last Friday around 4:55 p.m. on Mount Horeb Road near Old Mill Road in Manvers Township.

Officers say they responded to reports of a single-vehicle ATV crash that injured both the driver and the passenger.

A 33-year-old Emily Township man was airlifted to a trauma centre with life-altering injuries. The driver was taken to the local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result, a 37-year-old man has been charged with impaired operation and operating with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the ATV was impounded for seven days.

Police say the accused will appear before the courts at a later time.
