Multiple drivers charged after exceeding 150 km/hr on Highway 11 and Highway 400: OPP

Provincial police have charged multiple drivers who were allegedly speeding excessively on Highway 11 and Highway 400 overnight.

According to Orillia OPP, officers stopped a pair of drivers in their 20s who were speeding in a posted 90 zone on Highway 11 northbound in Oro-Medonte Township.

Police say a 29-year-old man was clocked at 153 kilometres per hour, and a 21-year-old male G2 driver was clocked at 144 kilometres per hour.

At the same time, the OPP detachment reports that a pair of teen drivers were speeding in a posted 100 zone on Highway 400, also in Oro-Medonte Township.

A 19-year-old woman allegedly reached 189 kilometres per hour, and a 17-year-old girl allegedly reached 163 kilometres per hour.

All four drivers face stunt driving charges.

“The OPP reminds all motorists that excessive speed and aggressive driving behaviour poses serious risks to everyone on the road,” said Const. Derek Tilley from Orillia OPP in a news release. “Officers will continue proactive enforcement efforts to promote safe driving across the region.”

Drivers accused of stunt driving could face penalties that include a 30-day licence suspension, a 14-day vehicle impoundment, fines ranging between $2,000 and $10,000, and possible jail time.

Anyone who witnesses dangerous driving is asked to contact the OPP or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Additionally, an 18-year-old driver was charged in Orillia for failing to display two licence plates.

Police say he was also operating a vehicle without an ignition lock system, as per conditions placed on his licence.
