Mount Albert Road closure continues as bridge work moves ahead

If you’re driving through East Gwillimbury, you may want to plan a few extra minutes into your commute. The ongoing road closure on Mount Albert Road at Highway 48 continues as the Ontario Ministry of Transportation works to complete bridge and intersection upgrades in the area.

York Region said in an update late last week that local traffic is still being maintained between McCowan Road and Highway 48. However, several restrictions remain in place while construction continues.

Westbound traffic on Mount Albert Road can only turn north or south onto Highway 48, through traffic is not permitted. Eastbound traffic approaching Highway 48 also faces restrictions, while southbound lanes on Highway 48 at Mount Albert Road remain open. Motorists heading north on Highway 48, however, cannot make westbound turns onto Mount Albert Road.

The region said signage has been installed throughout the area to help guide drivers safely around the closure.

The work is being carried out by Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation as part of a larger infrastructure improvement project designed to enhance safety and traffic flow through the busy intersection.

York Region said the closure is expected to remain in place until Friday, October 31 when the bridge and intersection work is anticipated to be complete.
