Police are investigating a multi-vehicle collision in Orillia Saturday afternoon, where two were reportedly sent to hospitals and one of the involved vehicles caught fire.

According to Orillia OPP, first responders were dispatched to Highway 12 and Memorial Avenue for a vehicle that was reportedly swerving in and out of traffic. Orillia OPP say they then received a second report of a multi-vehicle collision, which included one vehicle catching fire.

The detachment’s officers, Simcoe County paramedics, Orillia firefighters, Ramara Township firefighters, and Ornge were all involved in the response.

Police say one individual was airlifted to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries and a second was transported to a local hospital.

The southbound direction of Highway 12 was closed for several hours between Memorial Avenue and West Street South to allow investigators to work on the scene.

The investigation is being led by members of the OPP’s traffic incident management and enforcement team.

The area has since reopened.
