The city of Barrie recognizes Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day Tuesday.

“From the early morning hours to late at night, our transit operators are the backbone of Barrie’s public transportation system,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall.

“Because of them, seniors can attend their appointments, parents can transport their children to extracurricular activities, students can get to class, and individuals can commute to and from work efficiently,” he said.

“Thank you to all Barrie Transit operators and workers for your continued dedication to the critical role you play in our community.”

When using Barrie Transit on Tuesday, city staff ask riders show gratitude to their bus driver for getting them where they need to go, safely and efficiently.

Barrie Transit service operates under a contract with MVT Canadian Bus Inc. The company employs about 200 staff to operate Barrie Transit’s fleet of 44 conventional buses and more than 20 specialized buses.
