Grooming operations are ending across Georgian Bay as the snowmobiling season comes to a halt with double-digit temperatures and wet weather in the forecast.
The Georgian Bay Snowriders called the 2024-25 snowmobile season “one of the best seasons in many, many years, especially in this area."
The volunteer-run club that serves Midland, Penetanguishene, and Tiny and Tay townships, announced Tuesday grooming operations would stop with winter winding down. “It can do more harm than good to be grooming in the warm temperatures, and as the wet spots open up, our groomers can easily get stuck creating a huge expense and difficulty for the club."
The club’s social media post stated anyone intending a trip to the area to hit the trails should rethink their plans.
And for those diehards considering heading north, The Polar Bear Riders Snowmobile Club stated all its trails would be listed as unavailable as of Thursday through the weekend. “Riding our trails during this time would do irreparable damage, minimizing our chances at reopening.” The Polar Bear Riders club maintains roughly 350 kilometres of snowmobile trails surrounding the Town of Cochrane.
Snowmobile trails across the region show either unavailable (red) or limited availability (yellow), according to the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs interactive trail map on Wednesday.
