As communities across the region continue to clear debris from a destructive early spring ice storm, golf courses are preparing to swing into the new season—with several already setting tentative opening dates.
Innisbrook Golf Course in Barrie announced Friday evening it would open Saturday, marking the first of the 2025 season.
At Silver Brooke Golf Club in Lisle, a soft opening is scheduled for Sunday, offering golfers their first chance to hit the fairways following a harsh and damaging winter. Meanwhile, Bear Creek Golf Club in Barrie is eyeing April 17 as a possible opening date, though staff say that’s still subject to change depending on conditions.
The Club at Bond Head has already opened its South Course as of today, with a full opening of both courses scheduled for April 18.
Other courses, including Settlers’ Ghost Golf Club near Horseshoe Valley, Orangeville Golf Club, Trehaven Golf & Country Club in Tottenham, and Couchiching Golf Club in Orillia, hope to announce opening dates soon.
Hawk Ridge Golf Club in Orillia is targeting a May 1 opening, but staff note that could change depending on weather and remaining damage from the storm.
In Washago, Evergreen Golf Centre is also waiting to assess conditions before confirming its start date. Similarly, Batteaux Creek Golf Club near Collingwood and Bonaire Golf Club near Coldwater have not yet announced when play will resume for the season.
The late-season ice storm brought down trees, damaged properties, caused widespread power outages, and left lingering debris across the region. Municipalities continue to caution residents and visitors about trail and park safety, with clean-up operations expected to take weeks in some areas.
Despite the setbacks, there’s optimism in the air as temperatures rise and courses begin to dry out. Golfers itching to return to the greens are advised to keep an eye on course websites and social media pages for the latest updates. Staff at several courses have expressed gratitude for the patience of players as they work to prepare their grounds for a safe and enjoyable season.
With most courses reporting minimal long-term damage, the region’s 2025 golf season is shaping up to tee off shortly—albeit a little later than some had hoped.
