Motorists in Barrie may want to delay filling up their tanks, as gas prices are set to plunge significantly overnight.
According to Dan McTeague, president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, gas prices in Barrie will drop by 19 cents per litre Tuesday. Premium fuel is projected to fall by 16 cents, and diesel could drop 24 cents per litre.
The anticipated price cut follows the federal government’s decision to withdraw the federal carbon tax, McTeague says.
As of Tuesday, gas prices are expected to sit at 133.9 cents per litre, down from 152.9 cents on Monday. Premium fuel will drop to 166.9 cents, down from 182.9, and diesel prices will decrease to 139,9, compared to 163.9 cents.
The sudden decline marks one of the most significant price reductions since 2022.
