Celebrate Canada Day by doing something that is oh-so-Canadian – give blood. While many Canadians will Canada Day off, the need for blood never takes a break. Canadian Blood Services in Barrie is reminding residents that all blood types are needed now and throughout July. “Canada is more than where we live; it is how we show up for each other,” Canadian Blood Services says in a release. “Blood and plasma donation are one of the most powerful expressions of generosity and community.” Canadian Blood Services says nearly half or 46 per cent of Canadians think donating blood or plasma is a uniquely Canadian act of generosity. Around seven in 10 or 71 per cent think it’s one of the most meaningful ways people can give back. While the thought is there, only about two per cent of people who are eligible to give blood in this country currently donate. As demand continues to arise, the organization is urging Canadians to roll up their sleeves and help to ensure there’s enough blood for everyday care and unexpected emergencies. Canadian Blood Services is also reminding people to keep their appointments as there has been an increase in appointment cancellations this summer. To book an appointment, go to the Canadian Blood Services website.
