Provincial police in Essa Township charged a motorist allegedly speeding nearly double the limit, resulting his licence and vehicle being taken away.

Police say officers conducted a traffic stop on Mill Street early Sunday afternoon after clocking a vehicle travelling 108 kilometres per hour in a posted 60 zone.

"Speeding puts everyone on the road at risk, and the Nottawasaga OPP continues to take swift action against dangerous driving behaviors to ensure the safety of all road users," Nottawasaga OPP stated.

The driver, a 22-year old man from Bradford, was handed a stunt driving charge, which carries an immediate 30-day licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment, plus the potential for six demerit points and a significant spike in insurance rates, if convicted.

"Motorists are reminded to obey posted speed limits and drive responsibly at all times," OPP finished.
