Barrie woman accused of blowing nearly 3x legal alcohol limit after slow-moving head-on crash

A Barrie woman was charged with being impaired by three times the legal limit following a slow-motion collision in the city’s south end late Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the crash involving two vehicles that collided head-on while travelling at slow speeds happened at the intersection of Bryne Drive and Caplan Avenue shortly before 6 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Officers at the scene said one of the involved drivers exhibited “obvious signs of impairment.” She was placed under arrest and taken back to police headquarters for a breathalyzer, which police allege determined she had nearly three times the legal alcohol limit in her system.

The accused was subsequently charged with impaired driving and operation of a motor vehicle without insurance. She was later released from custody with a future court date set to answer to the offences.

As a result of the impaired driving charge, the vehicle was impounded for seven days and the woman’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90-days. A licence suspension is automatic and immediate any time a driver fails or refuses to provide a sample, fails or refuses to perform a physical co-ordination test or drug evaluation, or if the driver’s blood alcohol concentration is more than 80 milligrams in 100 millilitres of blood (.08).
