Barrie will be all done up in red and white on Wednesday to celebrate our country. The City has ramped up its Canada Day programming bringing fun, free and family-friendly activities to local neighbourhood parks. Most of the celebrations will take place along Barrie’s waterfront at Centennial Park from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. with activities, food trucks and live entertainment. Some highlights include mini soccer games from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Canada Day cupcakes at 5 p.m. and the night’s musical headliner, Terra Lightfoot, taking the stage at 8:30 p.m. People can park-hop to get in on all the fun. Dubbed Canada Day On the Move, there will be pop-up events at Lampman Lane Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Painswick Park from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Those festivities will feature an animal education show, face painting, busker performances, interactive games and live music. Open Air Dunlop, which typically happens on Saturdays throughout the summer, will take place on Canada Day as well. Dunlop Street will be blocked off to traffic from Maple Avenue to Mulcaster Street in favour of vendors, activities and live entertainment. The day and night will be capped off with a fireworks show beginning at 10 p.m. from Heritage Park. For those looking to party into the night, a Canada Day Salsa After Party will allow for you to dance the night away under the light of the moon.
