ATV trail ride to celebrate new Tay Twp. trail

Time to get out your four-wheeler and try out a new trial.

The Baxter ATV Trail Riders Club is hosting a trail awareness ride on Saturday to celebrate the grand opening of the new Tay Township ATV trail.

The two to three-hour ride will leave from the Georgian Bay Snow Riders (GBSR) Clubhouse at 2060 Newton Street in Tay Township at 10 a.m.

Registration is at 9 a.m. The $30 registration includes the ride and a barbecue lunch.

There are already 100 riders pre-registered and event organizers say they’re expecting as many as 400.

The route will head east on the GBSR rail trail from Newton Street to Sandhill Road, crossing Highway 12 in Waubaushene onto Coldwater Road. From there, it will go to Duck Bay Road and onward to Port Severn by road, crossing the locks and going west on the Honey Harbour Road to Violet Road in Georgian Bay Township. At the Baxter ATV Clubhouse at 35 Violet Road, an OPP officer will be handing out Lock It or Lose It information.

The ATVs will then head back out onto the trails for an hour ride, through the route they came, to the GBSR Clubhouse for a barbecue.

There will be several local ATV dealers set up with displays including one by the Ontario Federation of All Terrain Vehicle Clubs to talk about its rider safety program.

The event is planning on having many dignitaries attend.
