Allegedly impaired driver charged with speeding nearly 100km/h over limit

Provincial police arrested a motorist accused of speeding nearly 100 kilometres over the posted limit while impaired by almost three times the legal alcohol limit over the weekend.

Police say officers were patrolling in the area of Highway 89 and Highway 10 on Sunday night when they spotted a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop.

They allege the driver, a 51-year-old man from Pickering, showed signs of being intoxicated.

Along with stunt driving and operation while impaired, the accused was charged with operating a vehicle without insurance, and dangerous operation.

He was also hit with a licence suspension, vehicle impoundment and a day in court.
