P.E.I. woman facing impaired driving charges after allegedly hitting power poles with minivan

A woman from Summerside, P.E.I., is facing impaired driving charges after two crashes in the city Saturday night.

An officer on patrol in the downtown area saw a vehicle had hit a power pole on Granville Street near First Street around 10 p.m.

A person called 911 at the same time and reported the crash.

The vehicle involved, a Honda Odyssey, was damaged and the airbags had deployed.

One person inside the vehicle had minor injuries.

Police say the 30-year-old Summerside woman who had been driving the minivan failed a roadside screening test.

She was then arrested for impaired driving. She later gave breath samples that exceeded the legal limit, according to Summerside Police Services.

Police say they later learned the same vehicle had also struck a power pole on Foundry Street, causing it to fall over and land on a nearby parked car.

The Honda Odyssey was impounded.

The police say the driver was issued a driving prohibition and she will appear in court at a later date to answer to charges related to impaired driving.
