RCMP in Prince Edward Island charged Daniel Desmond Crowder of North Rustico, P.E.I., with weapons-related charges – including manufacturing firearms with a 3D printer – and uttering threats, said a Friday news release.

“The nature of the crimes in this incident, including the use of a 3-D printer to manufacture weapons, is of great concern,” said Sgt. Chris Goodwin. “Through a comprehensive investigation by the Federal and Serious Organized Crime (FSOC) unit, we were able to seize and analyze evidence and to advance criminal charges for prosecution.”

Daniel Desmond Crowder, 50, of North Rustico, P.E.I., is charged with:

  • uttering threats, s. 264.1(1)(a) Criminal Code (CC)
  • possession of a weapon while prohibited, s. 117.01(1) CC
  • two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, s. 88(1) CC
  • firearms manufacturing, s. 99(1)(a) CC

Queen’s District RCMP arrested Crowder at his residence on Feb. 24 after receiving information he was allegedly making threats online. Police dog services and an RCMP drone operator assisted in the arrest.

Police searched Crowder’s residence with the aid of RCMP digital forensic services the day after his arrest where they seized weapons and 3D-printed firearm components, said the release.

P.E.I. Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit (FSOC) is investigating with assistance from the National Weapons Enforcement Team (NWEST).

Crowder remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a bail hearing.
