Charlottetown police arrest man wanted in connection with Edmonton homicide

A man wanted in connection with a homicide in Edmonton has been arrested on Prince Edward Island.

Charlottetown Police Services says officers arrested 47-year-old John Joseph MacArthur at a home in South Melville, P.E.I., on March 17.

The tactical response team and street crime units assisted with the arrest.

“MacArthur had a Canada-wide warrant related to an ongoing homicide investigation in Edmonton,” said Charlottetown police.

“He was apprehended without incident and has been transported to Edmonton for remand and future court appearances.”

Police in Charlottetown collaborated with the Edmonton Police Service to locate MacArthur.

“This investigation has demonstrated the importance of inter-jurisdictional intelligence-gathering and cooperation,” said Charlottetown police.

“CPS would like to commend the Edmonton Police Service for their steadfast approach, collaborative efforts and professionalism.”

No details about the homicide investigation were released.

Edmonton police told CTV News they will hold a news conference and release more details about the case on Friday.
